Janvier South or Janvier is a hamlet in northern Alberta, Canada within the Regional Municipality (R.M.) of Wood Buffalo.[1] The hamlet's official name is Janvier South according to Alberta Municipal Affairs.[2] However, it is more commonly known and referred to as Janvier by the R.M. of Wood Buffalo and its residents.[3] It is further alternately known as Chard.[3]
Janvier South (aka Janvier or Chard) is located 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) northeast of Highway 881, approximately 94 kilometres (58 mi) southeast of Fort McMurray and 45 kilometres (28 mi) west of the Saskatchewan border.
The population of Janvier according to the R.M of Wood Buffalo's 2007 municipal census is 178.[4] The subsequent 2008 municipal census recorded a population of 194.[5] However, with the overall 2008 municipal census result for the R.M. of Wood Buffalo not being accepted by Alberta Municipal Affairs due to the use of extrapolation,[6] Janvier's 2008 population may be more of an estimate compared to its 2007 figure.
